About Mt. Calvary

Mission Statement

We are Christ entered, Biblically focused, and People oriented. Our worship is traditional and our messages are relevant. Our mission is to be a church where everyone knows they have value, a place and a purpose

One Church, Two Locations

For over 180 years, Mount Calvary Church has been a beacon of light and hope to the people of Eastern Montgomery County.  Mount Calvary Baptist Church began meeting in a log church building in 1841 on the property located on Den Hill Road in Christiansburg, VA. After a fire destroyed the original building, the church met in a wooden building (the little white church) until the current building was dedicated in 1948.

The little white church was donated to another congregation of believers and moved to another location. Through all the changes, the Lord used MCC to transform hundreds of lives through the message of the Gospel of Christ and the faithful service of God’s people. During those years, MCC has seen its share of peaks and valleys, victories, challenges and changes.

In January of 2020, Mt Calvary Baptist Church agreed to become a campus of Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church located in Salem, VA. Campus pastor, Howie McKinney, has been called to connect the past (himself having been raised in the Baptist tradition) to the present. We are one church with two locations: united in purpose, vision and mission. Much has changed during the past 180 years, yet MCC still stands as a beacon of light and hope to the community.
